What Is A Water Ionizer?

A water ionizer is a unit about the size of a shoe box, and it mounts to a wall, sits on your countertop, or hides under the sink. It is hooked up directly to your faucet using a valve that lets you switch between running water from the tap or from the water ionizer. The water ionizer is a flow through unit, so water will travel through the filter first, and then through the ionizing chamber, and roughly 2 gallons of ionized water is produced per minute. Since it can hook up to your faucet, you don’t need to fill any tanks, or go through a difficult installation process.

The water ionizer has developed in Asia over the past few decades, with research and development being done in Japan and Korea. In Asia, the water ionizer is used in medicine, certain industries, and more recently in homes. The water ionizer and the concept of water ionization is fairly new in the U.S., but is quickly gaining popularity.

What Is Water Ionization?

Water ionization, also known as water electrolysis, is the process of creating a concentration of acidic and alkaline minerals, basically separating the hydrogen and oxygen that is found in water. The result of water ionization is water that is either alkaline or acidic. Alkaline water is an antioxidant and an electron (or ion) rich substance for consumption, while acidic water will provide oxidizing water that acts like a cleanser and antibacterial for external use.

How Does A Ionizer Work?

When tap water enters the water ionizer, it will first be filtered to remove any impurities. The water is filtered using charcoal which will remove the bacteria, inorganic & organic chemicals, lead, pesticides, particulate, volatile organic chemicals, trihalomethanes, detergents, viruses, pollen, and asbestos.

What the water ionizer will NOT filter out are the soluble minerals. This gives the water ionizer the advantage over distillers and reverse osmosis devices, because both of those remove everything from the water. The water you will get from a distiller or a reverse osmosis device will have no healthy minerals, and will be acidic with a pH of 5.2 to 6. This water is typically used for irons and car batteries, and isn’t intended for human consumption because it will lead to mineral depletion and eventually disease.

The ideal water you should be drinking is alkaline with a ph of 8 to 10, which requires minerals like magnesium and calcium to be present. A water ionizer will keep those soluble minerals in the water, which the body needs in order to function properly.

A Ionizer Produces Alkaline And Acidic Water

When water passes through the ionizing chamber of the water ionizer, the water is separated into hydroxyl ions and hydrogen ions which produces two kinds of water: Alkaline Water and Acidic Water.

Alkaline Water Is For Internal Use
Alkaline water is an antioxidant, and will destroy any free radicals in your bloodstream, plus it will help the body to expel the buildup of acidifying toxic waste. Alkaline water will also carry nutrients & oxygen to the cells your body, and will increase the rate at which those nutrients are absorption by your cells. Alkaline water also slows bone loss, because the body will pull the alkaline nutrients it needs from your bones to help balance the acidity in your body, but by drinking alkaline water you’ll give your body what it needs to restore the alkaline/acid balance. Alkaline water is great for brewing tea and coffee, and for cooking, because it can draw out the flavors better than plain old tap water. These are just a few of the many benefits of alkaline water.

Acidic Water Is For External Use
Acidic water is great for your skin. It will tighten the skin, reduce or eliminate wrinkles, and generally help your skin to look younger and firmer. Also, acidic water can help keep your skin clear of skin spots, pimples and other kinds of blemishes. When it comes to your hair, acidic water can protect it from dandruff, itchy scalp, and hair loss. Another point you may not have known is that acidic water can kill most types of bacteria on contact. This means that it can be used to disinfect cuts and wounds, plus it can take the itch out of insect bites. When the acidity level is increased, you can use acidic water to clean dirt & grime, glass, cutlery, mirrors, countertops, the bathtub, cutting boards, and burns and stains are easily removed from pots & pans.

Why Get A Water Alkaline Ionizer?

People that are looking for ways to reduce the amount of acidity in their bodies, the level of acid in the blood, bodily fluids, and body tissues primarily purchase a water ionizer. This is because the water ionizer produces alkaline drinking water, which helps to restore the acid/alkaline balance.

When the body is in an acidic state, it is susceptible to illnesses, diseases, and ages more rapidly. This is due to the presence of oxygen free radicals. Oxygen free radicals are molecules that have an uneven number of electrons, and roam through the bloodstream searching for any molecules from where they can steal electrons. This stealing of electrons causes those healthy molecules to become free radicals themselves, which in turn causes damage to the body.

Another point to consider is that viruses, bacteria, and even cancers love an acidic environment. If your body is acidic, then it is easier for these bad guys to invade and thrive in your body. By bringing your body back into an alkaline state, it prevents the harmful microorganisms from entering the body.

Acidic water has many health benefits as well. It promotes healthy skin and hair, and is an effective disinfectant. Tap water, bottled water, and even distilled water cannot match the benefits of ionized water. If you are serious about your health, you should consider getting a water ionizer.
